Catholic Health Services’s (CHS) hospitals—St. Francis, St. Charles and St. Catherine of Siena—each have earned an ‘A’ rating in the fall 2020 Hospital Safety Score from The Leapfrog Group. An ‘A’ is the highest rating awarded by Leapfrog.

“The COVID-19 pandemic provided new challenges for our teams across CHS, but they stepped up to ensure our patients continued to receive high-quality care in a safe environment,” said CHS Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer Patrick M. O’Shaughnessy, DO, MBA, MS-PopH, FACEP, CHCQM. “I’m proud of the efforts of everyone at St. Francis, St. Charles and St. Catherine and all across CHS for ensuring our patients receive excellent medical care.”

St. Francis earned this distinction for the 16th time out of 18 ratings and previously was recognized by the Leapfrog Group as a Top General Hospital nationally. The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive. St. Charles earned its 9th ‘A’ rating.

The Leapfrog Group, a national organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers, devised the letter-based rating system to rank hospitals nationwide. Hospitals are rated on how well they prevent errors, infections, injuries and drug mix-ups that could lead to medical complications and unnecessary loss of life.
